Bessie May Perry
Funeral services for Mrs. Bessie Perry were held Friday, Sept. 26, 1997 at 1:30 p.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church, Postville. The Rev. Gary Catterson officiated. The organist was Beverly Bacon who accompanied the duet, Orval and Pauline Leyn. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Pleasant View Cemetery, Castalia.
Bessie Mae Perry, daughter of John and Sarah Ann (Caldow) McIntosh, was born February 17, 1911 in Decorah, Iowa. She died Tuesday, September 23, 1997 in the Ossian Senior Hospice at Ossian. She was 86.
She attended the Decorah Public School. On June 20, 1929 she married Chester Lawrence Perry at Decorah. They had three children. The family farmed in the Postville and Castalia areas. Bessie was a talented and gifted person who crocheted many beautiful pieces for her family, friends and neighbors. She crocheted the Lord's Supper for the communion table at the Presbyterian Church. She also worked on many craft projects until her health began to fail. Bessie enjoyed people and flowers. She became a resident of the Ossian Senior Hospice in 1988.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Chester Perry, who died March 12, 1965; a daughter, Lois Irene Boleyn and two brothers, Chester McIntosh and Harold McIntosh.
Surviving are two sons, Marvin Perry and wife, Dottie of LaPine, Ore, Kenneth Perry and wife, Norma, of Cedar Rapids; son-in-law, Raymond Boleyn and wife, Donna of Elgin; eleven grandchildren, David Perry, Sharon Meyers, Cindy Macku, Lee Boleyn, Jariet Boleyn Davis, Dean Boleyn, Joyce Boleyn Chandler, Kevin Boleyn, Kenneth Perry, Kirk Perry and Kyle Perry; 17 great grandchildren, two great grandchildren; a sister, Irene Alberts of Decorah; a brother, Archie McIntosh of Decorah; a sister-in-law, Grace (Mrs. Chester) McIntosh of Decorah and other relatives and many friends.
Bessie was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville.
Casket bearers were David Perry, Dean Boleyn, Cindy Macku, Joyce Chandler, Sharon Meyers, Kevin Boleyn, Lee Boleyn, Kenneth Perry, Janet Davis, Kirk Perry and Kyle Perry.
