Rev. John Thomas Weyer, Jr., was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on Monday, January 22, 1945, to John Thomas Weyer, Sr. and Rita Marie Keefe Weyer. Houston has been his home since he was a year old. He attended St. Thomas High School and was a graduate of the class of 1963. He attended St. Thomas University and St. Mary Seminary. On Friday, May 4, 1973, he was ordained a priest at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Houston. His cousin and mentor, Monsignor Bernard Roemer welcomed him into the priesthood with the words:"Now it is your turn to do the family baptisms, weddings, and funerals. I'll stand beside you and assist." On May 4, 2008, he celebrated thirty five-years of being a priest. Father John was called by God to serve at the following parishes, He served the Church as assistant pastor of St. Cecilia Church, Houston (1973), Holy Rosary Church, Rosenberg (1976), Sacred Heart Church, Conroe (1977). He served as pastor of St. Luke the Evangelist Church, Houston (1982), St. Mary of the Miraculous Medal Church, Texas City (1984), Epiphany of the Lord, Katy (1985), St. Dominic Church, Houston (1990), St. Laurence Church, Sugar Land (1994). He was serving as pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Church, Houston (2002) at the time of his death. Father Weyer was a man of faith and was deeply devoted to the Divine Mercy. He often could be heard saying the simple yet profound prayer of five simple words that he was so devoted to: "Jesus, I trust in you." Father loved to officiate at family gatherings and many of his family have had the honor of Father performing a wedding, baptizing children, receiving First Communion, and laying our loved ones to rest. This was definitely something that he took great pride in doing. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas Weyer and Rita Marie Keefe Weyer; and a brother, Francis Joseph "Frankie" Weyer. Those left to cherish his memory include three sisters, Florence Kroll and husband Howard of Marlin, TX, Irene Weyer of Waco, TX, and Connie Hughes and husband Stan of Lubbock, TX; one brother, Larry Weyer of Santa Maria, CA; two nieces, Nancy Kunze and Lea Kluck and husband Charlie, all of Marlin, TX; two nephews, Shawn Hughes and Brandon Hughes of Lubbock, TX; his great nieces and nephews, Dylan Moden, Reese Moden, Clay Moden, McKayla Moden, Cheyenne Kluck, Kodi Kluck, and Dakota Kluck, all of Marlin, TX; and Zayne Sires and Kimberly Sarah Hughes of Lubbock, TX; two aunts, Catherine Morrissey and Rose Schneider, both of Des Moines, IA; and numerous other loving relatives and friends.
