J.P. NESVIK PASSED AWAY NOVEMBER 27

A LIFE OF USEFULNESS CAME TO A CLOSE LAST SATURDAY IN THE PASSING OF AN HONORED AND RESPECTED CITIZEN.

John Peder Nesvik died at his home in Military township, November 27, 1926, his death being due to apoplexy. December 11, 1922, he suffered his first stroke. He was up and about since that time until a week ago Sunday forenoon when he suffered another stroke from which he did not rally, but spoke coherently and was conscious to the end.

John Peder Nesvik was born June 4, 1863, in Military township, Winneshiek county, Iowa, and was the son of Peder J. and Anna B. Nesvik. He grew to manhood on the farm, and divided his time in his childhood between his sutdies in the grammar and parochial schools and as assistant in the operation of the homestead.

May 28, 1887, in the Stavanger church, he was united in marriage with Miss Christine Eide, who passed away April 13, 1918. They became the parents of seven children: Adolph J., Elgin, Iowa; Clara, the wife of T. Hanson, Elgin, Iowa; Berner C., Ossian; Clarence J., Fayette county; Melvine, the wife of Werner Meyer, Ossian; Melvin and Leonard, Ossian.

Although quiet and unassuming, Mr. Nesvik at all times was interested in the development of the community and co-operated in measures and projects for its advancement. His entire life was spent on the homestead and was therefore well known throughout this district. His life was guided by honorable principles and he possessed those characteristics which commanded the confidence and good will of his fellow men.

Funeral services were held yesterday, Dec. 1st, at 11 o'clock at the home and at 12:30 at Stavanger Lutheran church, of which he was a devout member. Burial was made in Stavanger cemetery. Rev. Kr. Kvamme and Rev. L. Nesvik, cousin of the deceased, of Stoughton, Wis., officiated at the services. The casket bearers were Albert Eide, Clarence Eide, Chester Eide, Elmer Sorenson, Melvin Nesvik and Clarence Nesvik.
