Mildred Miller

Mildred E. Miller, of Dubuque, passed away Monday, May 5, 2008, at Luther Manor in Dubuque. She was 87.

Mildred was born on January 30, 1921, in Ossian, the daughter of Clarence and Blanche (Tollefson) Anderson. She graduated from Postville High School in 1938. She married Marven H. Miller on Oct. 14, 1939, at the Little Brown Church.in Nashua. Mildred sold Avon for five years, and worked for Frank Hardie Advertising and Rossiter and Hamm Architects (now known as Design Center Associates), where she retired in 1980.

She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Mary Circle. She was a member of Epworth Thursday Club for more than 50 years. She was a surgical waiting room volunteer at The Finley Hospital; a Member of the Luther Manor Auxiliary where she also was a church representative, and was Secretary of First Improvement Organization in Epworth, now known as Epworth Community Improvement Organization. In 1996, she received the State of Iowa Governors Volunteer Award.

Mildred enjoyed spending time with her family and watching her grandchildren in school events. She also loved playing cards and games with her great-grandchildren. She loved to travel and dance.

She was preceded in death by her husband, who passed away on January 20, 2007; her parents; a granddaughter, Jill Biermann and a nephew, Bryan Hove.

Surviving are three children, Janet (Donald) Biermann, of Peosta, David (Carol) Miller, of Bettendorf, and Carole (Steve) Sefzik, of Peosta; nine grandchildren, JoDee (John) Karrmann, Lisa (Ted) Derry; Kevin (Jean) Biermann and Lana (Craig) Bendixsen, Terry (Kelly) Miller, Tammy Eller; Tonja Crouse, and Jeffrey (Sue) and Eric Sefzik; 18 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter, a sister, Sandra (Gary) Hove, of Decorah, a sister-in-law, LaNida Severidt, of State Center, and nieces and nephews.
