Lille E. Garden
Miss Lillie E. Garden died at Decorah hospital on Thursday last, the 15th inst., the cause of death being chronic intestinal disorder. An operation was contemplated but this only disclosed the hopelessness of the case.Miss Garden was born February 23, 1871, in Springfield township [Winneshiek Co.], and was a daughter of Halvor and Isabelle Garden, pioneer residents. She was educated in Decorah Institute and for the greater part of the past twenty years has been a teacher. She returned four years ago from Colorado where, with her sister, she spent three years. She is survived by four brothers and four sisters, most of whom were in attendance at the funeral, which was held at the Washington Prairie M. E. church on Monday. Rev. Wang, of Mabel, officiated. The surviving members of the family are Mary Garden of Springfield township, Mrs. P. L. Bervig, and E. L. Garden, of Souris, N. D., Mrs. M. H. Hagen and William Garden of Landa, N. D., Ben Garden of New Rockford, N. D., E. N., of Fertile, Minn., and Jeanetta, of Canby, Oregon.
Miss Garden was an earnest Christian woman, conscientious and preserving in any undertaking she assumed. In her death the members of the family have the sympathy of many friends.
