Dorothy Lorraine Groth, 70, died Wednesday, April 5, 200 at the Aase Haugen Home, follwing a long, courageous battle with leukemia.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at Highland Lutheran Church in rural Spring Grove, Minn., with the Rev. David Andreae officiating.
Connie Bolson was the organist. Soloists Paul Casterton sand "On Eagles's Wings" and Pastor Andreae sand "Den Storr Hvide Flok."
Congregatinal hyms were "How Great Thou Art" and "Joyful, Joyful."
Casket beares were CHuck Groth, Dean Groth, Michael Groth, Jerry Nelson, Dan Downing, Robert Hewitt, Jason Groth and Steven Droivold.
Burial was at the church cemetery. The French & Balik Funeral Home handled arrangements.
Dorothy (Droivold) Groth was borth Feb. 7, 1930, in Allamakee County, the daughter of Andrew and Gustine (Langlie) Droivold.
She atteneded th Waterloo Ridge Coutnry School adn then graduated from Spring Grove High School in 1947. SHe then attended Windona State College and Recieve dher teaching certificate in 1949. SHe tuaght school in Chatfield, Richfield, Hastings and Spring Grove from 1949-55.
Dorothy married Kenneth Groth Dec. 3, 1955 at the Waterloo Ridge Lutheran Church. They moved to Decorah in 1955 and she helped her husband with Groth Trucking for many years until they retired in 1988.
Dorothy also worked at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home as a dietary aide for 15 years, retiring in 1995.
She was a memmber of the Highland Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Ruth Circle.
Dorothy was also a volunteer for the battered women's shelter and enjoyed quilting at Aase Haughen Home.
Hobbies included gardening and doing embroidery. Dorothy enjoyed life, but one of her greatest joys was her family and especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband, Kenneth; six children, Chuck and Dawn Groth of Decorah, Dean Groth of Tucson, Ariz., Linda and Jerry Nelson of La Crosse, Wis., Lois and Dan Downing of Waterloo, janice and Bob Hewitt of Waterloo, and Michael Groth of Minneapolis, Minn.
There are 15 grandchildren, Jill, Jacob and Jason Groth, Brandon and Dustin Viller, Kristy, Jessica Daniel, Allison and Leah Downing; and Cody, Kristen, Lucas, Jenna and Logan Hewitt.
Other survivors include father-in-law Luther Groth of Decorah, one brother, Alden and Gert Droivold of Faribault, Minn., one sister, Elizabeth and Charlie Hagen of Mabel, Minn., two aunts, Othilda Gunderson of Mabel, Minn., and Evelyn Langlie of Spring Grove, Minn.; one niece, Kathryn Kolhaven; one nephew, Steven Droivold; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law and cousins.
Dorothy Groth was receded in death by her parents and borther-in-law Mervin Selness.
