Gordon Forde 1930-2008

Gordon Hartley Forde, 77, a resident of Missoula, MT, died at Village Health Care Center Monday, March 3, 2008. Graveside services were at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Lewistown, MT Monday, March 10. Memorials are suggested to PALS (Pet Assistance League), P.O. Box 453, Lewistown, MT 59457 in memory of his cat, Lizzy. Creel Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Gordon was born September 16, 1930 in Decorah to John and Clara (Slinale) Forde. He was the second youngest of six children. He attended school in Iowa. In 1964, he moved to Missoula and in 1965 he worked for Price and joined the Ironworkers, which he belonged to for 43 years.

September 21, 1972 in Lewistown, MT he was united in marriage to Evelyn (Barta) Suda. He said it was the best thing that ever happened to him. He continued to work for Price as a steelworker until he retired in 1995. After retirement, he took up driving cars for dealerships in Missoula until his illness two years ago.

He enjoyed crossword puzzles, driving cars, traveling, horse races, airplanes, and playing Keno. He loved and cherished his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren dearly. Within days of his last breath, he was able to list most of them.

He is survived by his five children: Diane (Jim) Shaver, Patti Macomber, Marilyn Suda, and Tim (Stacey) Suda, all of The Dalles, OR, and Gordon (Susie) Suda of Livingston, MT; 17 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; his sister, Inez Gjere of Decorah; and three brothers, Omer (Shirley) Forde; Arlen (Marg) Forde, both of Decorah, and Forrest (Marie) Forde of Center Point. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn; a daughter, Janice Hollenbeck; a brother, Merle Forde; sons-in-law Scott O'Dell and Steve Macomber; and grandson, Ryan O'Dell.
