EVART HUGHES

Funeral services for Evart Hughes were held Wednesday, October 8, 2003, at 11:00 a.m. in the Frankville Community Presbyterian Church at Frankville, Iowa. The Reverend James Walker officiated. Darlene Winkie was the organist. Honorary Casket Bearers were: Brent Schoeing, Erik Bodensteiner, Clint Bodensteiner, Tory Hughes, Travis Hughes, Toby Hughes. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Inurnment was in the Frankville Cemetery.

Evart James Hughes, the son of Elmer Otto Hughes and Elsie Anna (nee Linderbaum) Hughes, was born September 13, 1925, on the family farm in Winneshiek County, near Castalia, Iowa. He passed away Sunday, October 5, 2003, in the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center at LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He had reached the age of 78 years and 22 days.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Frankville Presbyterian Church. Evart attended the Frankville School and graduated from Postville High School in 1943.

On March 10, 1944 Evart was married to Lilah Viola Clement in the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, near Decorah. To this union four children were born. They farmed in the Postville area and Evart was employed at the Iowa Turkey Plant for a number of years, as well. His greatest enjoyment was his family. He liked to fish and hunt and spend time outdoors.

Surviving are his wife, Lilah, a daughter, Linda Rae (Bruce) Schoening of Tampa, Florida, a son Ronald (Linda) Hughes of Luana, a daughter, Donna Kay (Reggie) Gross of West Union, and a son, Rick Lee (Patti) Hughes of Postville, 10 grandchildren, two step grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, two step great grandchildren, and a sister, Darlene (Byron) Schultz, of Frankville. He is preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Elsie Hughes.
