Naida Rawson

Funeral services for Naida Rawson were held Tuesday, October 19, 1999 at 11 a.m. in the United Methodist Church at Castalia, Iowa. The Rev. Ken Seney officiated. Burial was in the Bloomfield Cemetery at Castalia. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Naida Leota Rawson, the daughter of William H. and Jessie (Feltis) Peckham, was born November 1, 1911 in Bloomfield Township, Winneshiek County, near Castalia, Iowa. She passed away Friday, October 15, 1999 in the Ossian Senior Hospice at Ossian, Iowa. She had reached the age of 87 years, 11 months and 14 days.

She attended the rural schools near Castalia, was graduated from Ossian High School in 1928 and also from Upper Iowa University at Fayette in 1932, where she received her degree in Home Economics. She taught in the rural schools until her marriage.

On June 1, 1935 Naida was married to Harold L. Rawson at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, Iowa. To this union five children were born. They farmed on the home farm, later designated a Century Family Farm, for many years. Naida worked as a Certified Nursing Assistant for several years at the Ossian Senior Hospice. She became a resident there in 1992. Naida was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star and a member of the MCA Club in Castalia.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harold, a daughter, Madeline (Bill) Buddenberg, two grandchildren, Haldain Rawson and Brett Buddenberg, and a brother who died in infancy.

Surviving are her children, Leota and her husband, Lein Knudsvig, of Decorah, Iowa, Karel Rawson and his wife, Joyce, of West Union, Iowa, Robert "Bob" Rawson of Decorah, and Wesley Rawson and his wife, Mariett, of Castalia, Iowa, and a son-in-law, Bill Buddenberg and wife, Diane, of Castalia.

Also surviving are fourteen grandchildren, Paul Knudsvig and wife, Belkis, Brian Knudsvig and wife, Julie, Lindsay Knudsvig and wife Connie, Wade Knudsvig and wife, Ann, Dan Knudsvig; Randy Buddenberg and wife, Denise, Doug Buddenberg and wife, Pam, Bruce Buddenberg and wife, Julie, Lynn and husband, Leland Monroe; Janell and husband, Kevin Hoey, Roxanne Rawson, Lezley and husband Lane Johansen; Steve Rawson and Kevin Rawson; 23 great grandchildren.

Casket bearers were the grandchildren.
