Funeral Services Held For Castalia Resident

Funeral services were held from the Waucoma funeral home to the Castalia E. U. B. Church for Bertha Richards, 80, who passed away at Decorah following an illness of several years. The rites were in charge of Rev. Curtis H. Webster. Burial was in Castalia cemetery.

Bertha Anderson, daughter of Hiriam and Sarah Anderson, was born August 4, at Castalia and died June 19, 1952 at Decorah at the age of 80 years and 10 months, after an illness of several years.

She was married to W. L. Richards November 9, 1889. To this union was born four children: Glen, who died in infancy, Roy, of Waucoma, Sada, Mrs. Vivas Bollman, Castalia, who died in 1948, and Luella, a teacher in Alpha.

There are four grandchildren, Mrs. Phil Hawk of North Bend, Washington, Gerald Richards of Waucoma, Mrs. Ed Floody of Castalia, Richard V. Bollman in the air force, Miami, Florida and also nine great grandchildren.

Mrs. Richards spent her entire life near Castalia. She was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter of Ossian and a member of the E. U. B. Church of Castalia. With her passing the life of this pioneer family is ended. Her daughter Luella was enroute to the state of Washington to enter the State University at Seattle for summer school work. She was unable to attend the funeral.
