EMMA HEMESATH DIED SUNDAY

Emma Catherine Hemesath of Ossian, Iowa, died suddenly of natural causes on Sunday morning, March 22, 1998, at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa. She was 75 years old.

Funeral services for her were conducted this (Wednesday) morning at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church at Ossian by the Rev. Richard Kuhn. Carol Hemesath, O.S.F. gave the homily. Reader was Martha Kath. Nieces and nephews gave the prayers of the faithful. Leo J. Elsbernd was communion minister.

Burial was made in St. Francis cemetery with the following nieces and nephews serving as casket bearers: Herman Schulte, Teddy Schulte, Joe Hemesath, Eleasnor Spielbauer, James Hemesath, John Hemesath, Nancy Hemesath, Norma Cahil, Martha Kath and Karl Kath.

Emma Catherine Hemesath was born in rural Ossian, Iowa, on May 25, 1922, the daughter of Herman and Anna (Huber) Hemesath. Emma was baptized and confirmed in her faith at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian and attended De Sales School.

Emma resided with her parents and her brother, Ted, on the family farm west of Ossian. After her parents passed away, she continued to live there until she moved to the Good Samaritan Home this past January.

She was a member of the St. Francis de Sales Church; its Rosary Society; a past circle leader; volunteered at the Ossian Public Library as well as serving on the Library Board. Over the years, she received enjoyment from piano playing, reading, card playing, crossword puzzles, gardening where she especially like raising gladiolus and violets.

Emma is survived by four brothers: Herman Hemesath and his wife, Helen of Decorah, Iowa; Andrew Hemesath and his wife, Julia of Calmar, Iowa; Theodore (Ted) Hemesath of Ossian, Iowa; and Victor Hemesath and his wife, Virginia of Norway, Iowa; and three sisters: Helen and her husband, Leo Elsbernd of Ossian; Sister Luke (Mary) Hemesath of Techny, Illinois; and Pauline Schulte of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Also surviving are 26 nieces and nephews and spouses: Roseann and Jerry Kollsmith, Herman and Mary Schulte, Gerry and Sandy Schulte, Lois Rowan, Doris Hawkins, Stella Entsminger, Teddy and Wendy Schulte, Joe and Alice Hemesath, Fred and Frannie Hemesath, Rosemary and Grady Whitehorne, Norbert and Suzanne Hemesath, Ellie and Larry Spielbauer, Carol Hemesath, O.S.F.; Dan and Rosario Hemesath, Phil and Carol Hemesath, Nancy Hemesath, Norma and Jim Cahill, Mary Elsbernd, O.S.F.; Martha Kath, Lori Whittle; Judy and Rancy Gibbs, Kathy and Dennis Verdon, Beth and Tom Moore, Jim and Carol Hemesath, John and Cindy Hemesath, and Ellen and Greg Hergert.

She is preceded in death by her father, Herman (1965) and her mother Anna (1969), a sister, Sister John (Frances) Hemesath (Jan. 1998) and a brother-in-law, Matthias Schulte in 1955.
