JOHN ZIDLICKY DIED THURSDAY

John Zidlicky of Decorah died Thursday. He was 81 years old.

Funeral services for him were conducted Monday morning at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, Decorah at 11 a.m. The Rev. Kim W. Smith, officiated.

Special music was provided by Orville and Dorothy Halverson. Organist was Paul Bruvold.

Burial was in the church cemetery with the following serving as pallbearers: Lorado Adelmann, Victor Buresh, Dave Huinker, Duane McIntosh, Andrew Bakke, Bob Crookshank, Herman Juffer, John H. Zidlicky, Jr., Roger Langreck, Melvin Lee, Bill Obermeier, Gary Zidlicky, and Paul Zidlicky.

Honorary pallbearers were Jeff and Jacque Portz, Jon and Kristy Meyer, and Seth Z. Allen.

John Vaclov (James) Zidlicky was born Nov. 9, 1915, in Saratoga Township, Howard County, Iowa to John and Marie (Lomica) Zidlicky. He was raised in Chester, Iowa area and was graduated from Chester High School.

He married Palma Aschim on Sept. 24, 1939, and the couple farmed near Chester, Iowa until 1948. They then moved to a farm near Ridgeway, Iowa where they lived until 1951, when they moved to a farm near Decorah.

John was a member of Washington Prairie Lutheran Church where he served on the Board of Trustees and as an usher. He also was a member of the Sons of Norway and Farm Bureau where he served as a director.

Mr. Zidlicky enjoyed spending time with his family, his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed trout fishing, pheasant, deer, fox and coon hunting and snowmobiling. He enjoyed following sports, especially Hawkeye basketball.

Survivors include his wife, Palma; a son Dale Zidlicky of Bloomington, MN; two daughters, Janice, and her husband, Marvin (Mike) Meyer of Ossian and Ruth and her husband, Tim Allen of San Antonio, TX; and three grandchildren: Jacque and her husband, Jeff Portz of Davenport, IA, Jon and his wife Kristy Meyer of Ossian and Seth Allen of Kalamazoo, MI.

Also surviving are two brothers, Paul and his wife, Laura Zidlicky of Oelwein, IA and Art and his wife Gay Zidlicky of Spillville, IA; and a sister, Orpha and her husband Milton Obermeier of Charles City, IA; and two great grandchildren, Justin and Jacob Portz of Davenport, IA.
