Funeral Held Here

Funeral services were held here last week Tuesday for Mrs. Millie Riggs, a former Castalia resident, who passed away in Ames the Saturday before, aged 89 years. Pallbearers were Ward Bachelder, Berdell Sphar, Frank Harvey, Will Timmerman, Carlaus Meyer, Roy Campbell.

Mrs. Riggs was born on a farm a mile east of Castalia as the daughter of Enos and Esther Holcomb Lambert, September 28, 1857, and received her education in the country school and at Luther College, Decorah. Later she taught school for several years.

She was married to Elbe Riggs in September, 1882. To this union five children were born, Rev. Fred Riggs, Bessie Riggs, Rev. Hall Riggs, all of Ames; Mrs. T. J. (Floy) Barnes and Rev. Paul Riggs of Morna, Nebraska. Her husband passed away in 1916, while Bessie and Fred also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Riggs made her home in York, Nebr., with her daughter, Bessie, until the latter passed away and then went to Ames to live with her son, Hall. She was a member of the United Brethren church.

In addition to her three children she is also survived by three brothers and three sisters, Dr. J. L. Lambert of Chicago, J. W. Lambert of Postville, G. M. Lambert of Luana, Mrs. A. J. Fox of Fresno, Calif., Mrs. W. F. Ebersole of Tama and Mrs. A. G. Frahar of Bend, Oregon.

Coming for the funeral were Rev. and Mrs. Hall Riggs, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Riggs of Ames; Mr. and Mrs. T. J. Barnes of Norwalk; Rev. and Mrs. Paul Riggs of Morna, Nebr.; Mr. and Mrs. Marion Lambert and daughter of Luana; Mr. and Mrs. John Lambert of Postville; Miss May Lambert and Frank Fortkamp of West Union; the Misses Letta and Lulda Carlton of Mason City.
