Wilfred Chester White, 93, of 907 S. Star Ave, (Burlington, Iowa)died Sunday, August 20 8, 1988, at his home.
Born August 5, 1895, in Parker, South Dakota, he was the son of George and Ada Darling White. He married Lucretta Dodge June 15, 1921, in Rochester, Minnesota.
He was employed as a physics teacher with Burlington high school and Burlington Junior College from 1930 until retiring in 1963. He earned an honorary doctorate in 1982 from Iowa Wesleyan College. He was a longtime promoter of the United Nations and a generous supporter of church worldwide mission projects. He was a US Army veteran of World War II and a member of the first United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Shirley (Charles) Garland, Chicago, Illinois, and Mrs. Marion Chatman, Madison, Wisconsin; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The body has been cremated. A memorial service for Mr. White will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the first United Methodist Church. A graveside committal service will be Sunday morning and Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak.
A memorial has been established for the world a service-church missions.
