Ray Rasmussen, age 95, of Decorah died Monday July 30, 2007 at the Waukon Good Samaritan Center in Waukon after a long illness.

Funeral services will be on Friday August 3, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Decorah Lutheran Church in Decorah by Rev. James Glesne, Rev. Bryan Robertson and Rev. Allen Vik burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah.

Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Thursday August 2, 2007 at the Schluter Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and after 10:00 at the church on Friday

Ray Charles Rasmussen was born March 4, 1912, in Winneshiek County, Iowa, to Jens and Stella (Rosendahl) Rasmussen. He was baptized and confirmed at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church and attended county school in the rural Decorah area. He was united in marriage to Grace Erickson of Decorah, on March 20, 1937, at the Decorah Lutheran Church.

Ray and Grace farmed for many years in Canoe Township, retiring in 1978, when they moved to Decorah. After retirement, Ray continued to stay busy working as a custodian at the Decorah Lutheran Church, the Winneshiek Co-op and also helped out many people with various tasks. Ray was a long time member of the Decorah Lutheran Church.

Ray is survived by his son, Ronald (Rosemary) Rasmussen of Decorah; his daughter, Rose (Ken) Beardmore of Waukon; grandchildren, Brian Sturtz of Decorah, Michael (Janel) Sturtz of Indianola; Terry (Colleen) Sturtz of Decorah; Tony (Stephanie) Vick of Ridgeway; and Julie Erickson of Decorah. Step grand-children Mark Bean and Heather Adam of Decorah and three great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Ronan Sturtz of Decorah and Nathanial Sturtz of Indianola. Two sisters: Mae Brynsaas and Selma (Russell) Nelson and one brother, Ervin Rasmussen, and one sister in-law: Hazel Grotegut, all of Decorah and several nieces and nephews.

Ray was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife Grace in 2002; three brothers, Marlyn, Lester & Vernon; and one sister: Henrietta Sundby; three sisters-in-law: Marguerite Rasmussen, Lylas Rasmussen and Arlene Rasmussen. Three brothers in-law: Hubert Erickson, Casper Sundby and Norman Brynsaas.
