Sampson, Carolyn (Nelson) -- 1923 - 2007

Carolyn Sampson

Carolyn B. "GiGi" Sampson, 83, of LaCrosse, WI and formerly of Lynxville, WI died Sunday, June 24, 2007 at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse of congestive heart failure.

Interment will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 27 in Decorah Iowa Lutheran Cemetery. Following interment there will be an 11:30 a.m. church service in Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lansing. Pastor Laura Gentry will officiate. There will be a lunch following. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association, our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lansing or the Humane Society.

Carolyn was born September 25, 1923 in Decorah to Nels and Florence (Kobriger) Nelson. She graduated from Decorah High School and Luther College. She married Weston M. "Wes" Sampson June 5, 1944 in Decorah Lutheran Church. She was an elementary school teacher for 38 years. In her retirement years, she operated an antique shop with her husband Wes.

Carolyn is survived by a daughter, Carol (Verdel) Dawson of LaCrosse; two grandchildren, Dr. David (Jackie) Dawson of Onalaska, WI and Dana (Michael) Fay of Geneva, IL; four great-grandchildren, Brandon Matthew and Ashley Lauren Dawson of Onalaska, WI and Noah Weston and Genevieve Carolyn Fay (due in October) of Geneva, IL; two brothers, David (Karen) Nelson of Prairie du Chien, WI and Charles Nelson of Minneapolis, MN; three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Engen, Thelma Sampson and Verna Sampson; two brothers-in-law, Wally Oxley and Durv Sampson; and nine nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Norma Jean Nelson and Alice Oxley; and her husband. She dearly loved her family and all cats and dogs, especially her granddog, Bailey.
