Arno Fred Timmerman

Arno Fred Timmerman died Monday, Jan. 6, 1992 in the Good Samaritan Center at Waukon. He had reached the age of 92 years, 9 months, and 14 days

Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 9, 1992, at 11:00 a.m. in the United Methodist Church at Castalia. The Rev. Verdon Swenson officiated. Special music was provided by grandsons, Kevin and Joel Timmerman, accompanied by Florence Albright. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Castalia. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Pallbearers were Kevin, Gary and Joel Timmerman, Kenneth Nordheim, Jonathan Steege, and Nels Lee.

Arno Timmerman was born March 22, 1899, near Castalia, the son of Johann Joachim Carl and Wilhimine Anna Caroline (Meyer) Timmerman.

He was confirmed March 16, 1913 in St. Paul Lutheran Church by the Rev. Kuhne. He attended the Castalia Public School.

On Oct. 7, 1922 he was married to Delyla Bollman at Decorah. To this union three sons were born. The Timmermans lived on the family farm near Castalia until 1952 when they moved to their present home in Castalia. Arno loved flowers and grew many varieties in his back yard. He also planted fruit trees as well as strawberries.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Castalia Cemetery Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Delylia, who died in 1983; their son Cloy William Timmerman; a brother, William Timmerman; and two sisters, Clara Sphar and Alma Timmerman.

Surviving are his sons, Wayne and his wife, Betty, of Postville, and Kenneth and his wife, Mary, of Castalia; seven grandchildren, Dawn Mena, Kevin, Joel, and Craig Timmerman, Gary Timmerman, Kathryn Steege, and Rebecca Timmerman; eight great-grandchildren, Steffan and Palmer Mena, Maura and Kelly Timmerman, Anna and Kerri Timmerman, and Paul and Larissa Steege.
