Mel Einck

Mel Frances Einck of Postville passed away early Friday morning, April 20, 2007, while at work. He had reached the age of 61 years, one month, and six days. A Mass of Celebration for the life of Mel Einck was held Tuesday, April 24 at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Ossian. Msgr. Cletus Hawes presided, with Father Richard Gaul, the Reverend Gary Catterson, and Clark Goltz participating in the service. Diane Stee was the organist. Casketbearers were John Einck, Dean Einck, Daryl Einck, Scott Einck, Brian White, Todd Einck, Jeff Einck, and Doug Einck. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Mel Francis Einck was born March 14, 1946, at Decorah to Arthur and Mildred (Wiltgen) Einck. He spent his early years in Ossian, graduating from St. Francis DeSales Catholic School in 1964. He attended DeVry Technical School in Chicago for one year. He entered the U.S. Army in November of 1965 and was discharged in December of 1967.

Mel was married to Cindy Sue White October 30, 1965, at St. Francis DeSales Catholic Church in Ossian. To this union three sons were born. Mel and Cindy lived in Aberdeen, MD for three months and then in Paso Robles, CA until December of 1967, when Mel was discharged from the Army. They lived in Ossian for a short time and moved to Postville in May of 1969. Mel had been employed by Allamakee-Clayton Electric Cooperative in Postville since October of 1968, until the present time.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy; three sons, Daniel William Einck of Wadena, Michael Francis Einck and fiancé Melanie Carolus of Waukon, and Kris David Einck and wife Dana of Prairie du Chien, WI; 11 grandchildren, Patience Anderson, Tiffany Anderson, Brianna Carolus, Ashlee Einck, Dayton Einck, Tanner Carolus, Jordan Einck, Nicholas Einck, Brayden Einck, William Einck, and Samantha Wheeler; two brothers, Robert and Dianna Einck of Ossian and Richard and Jane Einck of Cedar Rapids; brothers-and sisters-in-law Barbara White of Postville, Brad (Peggy) White of Webster City, Kim (Denice) White of Stoddard, WI, and Lori (Jim) Wyatt of Eden Prairie, MN; several nieces and nephews; other relatives; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mildred Einck.

Mel enjoyed being with his grandchildren. He had been a fisherman and liked hunting as well. Mel also enjoyed golfing, cooking and canning and took great pride in his yard. He was a very devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he will be greatly missed.
