George Waters 1916-2003
George Waters was born in McIntire, Iowa to R. J. Waters and Jennette "Nettie" Siple on January 22, 1916. He died at St. Cloud, Minnesota on October 13, 2003 at the age of 87 years. George grew up on a farm in the Postville, Iowa area and graduated from Postville High School in 1932. In 1937, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Irene Walby in Harmony, MN. They lived in several locations including Farmersburg, Guttenburg, and Hampton, IA; Canton, SD; Akeley, MN and Mercedes, TX.
George served in World War II in the US Navy and was stationed in the Philippine Islands. He had been a Watkins dealer in Guttenburg, prior to entering the service in 1944. Upon returning, he took a Watkins territory in Hampton, IA and resided there until 1959.
He then joined International Multifoods as a Territory Manager in Southeastern South Dakota and moved to Canton. He retired from this position in 1978.
George and Dorothy spent their summers at Ham Lake near Akeley, MN and their winters in Mercedes, TX. George was active in the Masonic Temple, VFW, baseball and bowling leagues, camping, fishing and hunting.
After Dorothy's death in 1989, George married family friend Meta Kothenbeutal and later Millie Maddox.
George is survived by his two sons, Arland (Carol) Waters of Akeley, MN; Duane Waters of Laguna Niguel, CA; one daughter, Julie Minor of Brainerd, MN; eight grandchildren, Kristen (David) Struyk of Deep Haven, MN; Kurtis (Tammy) Waters of Brainers, MN; Eric (Stephanie) Waters of Toulouse, France; Cindy (Todd) Steinke of Minnetonka, MN; Pat (Molly) Waters of Denver, CO; Anjeanette (Shawn) Smith of Nisswa, MN; Chad Minor of Minneapolis, MN and Michelle Minor of Rochester, MN. George has thirteen great grandchildren.
George was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy, infant son Gary, infant daughter Jennette, brother Guy Waters and sister Olla Clement.
Funeral services were held on October 18, 2003, at St. Cloud, Minnesota with interment at Frankville Cemetery, Frankville, Iowa.
