WALTER WITT

Walter Witt, 80, Died Friday at Co. Hospital

Walter Witt, a retired Ossian area livestock dealer, died Friday at the Winneshiek County Memorial hospital at Decorah. He was 80 years old.

Funeral services were conducted Monday morning at St. Francis de Sales Catholic church in Ossian. The Rev. Philip McDermott was officiant.

Burial was made at Mr. Olivet cemetery at Waukon. The following men were honorary pallbearers: Ernie Fruechte, Richard Fruechte, Dr. Donald Moore, Curt Nordheim, Ozzie Quandahl and Art Ernst.

Active casket bearers were Steve Witt, Mike Witt, Dave Witt and Wally Witt, all grandsons, and Al Kuennen and Jack Jaster.

Mr. Witt was a member of Winneshiek county's Board of Review for 12 years and was a member of the Winneshiek Co. Conservation Board at the time Lake Meyer was developed.

Walter Witt was born May 10, 1905, in Bloomfield township, rural Castalia, Iowa, a son of the late John and Augusta (Brandt) Witt.

Survivors include his wife, Helen of Ossian; two sons, Kenneth of Clinton, Iowa, and Donald of Ossian; and 12 grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Also surviving are three brothers, Delbert Witt, Ray Witt and John Witt, Jr.; and seven sisters, Rozella Kelly, Marie Shogren, Charlotte Schafee [Schave], Nelda Weaver, Irma O'Connor, Donna Jones and Darlene Haugen.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Clarence Witt.
