Ida Caroline Watne
Ida Caroline (Gipp) Watne, 87, formerly of Ossian died Friday evening, February 15, 1991, at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, Iowa. She was born the daughter of the late Herman and Johanna (Hoth) Gipp in rural Decorah, August 26, 1903.
Funeral services were conducted on Monday, February 18, 1991 at the Ossian Lutheran Church, 11 a.m. with the Rev. Wayne Ellingson officiating. Organist was Irmagaard Ellingson, Iva Nell Monson, soloist sang "My Heart Is Longing." The Brockman Hammersland American Legion Auxiliary were in honorary attendance. Casket bearers were John, James, Gerald, Charles and Dean Gipp, Dale Mundt, and Darrell Ott. Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery at Ossian with Schmitz Funeral Home, Ossian, handling the arrangements.
Ida was baptized in her faith at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Eldorado, Iowa, and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Castalia, Iowa. She received her education by attending the Hyde country school in Frankville township. Along with her parents she moved from the Herman Gipp farm four miles west of Frankville to Ossian in 1944, where she resided with and helped care for her parents until their deaths. Ida then was employed for several years as a cook in the Ossian Public Schools.
On August 16, 1962 she married Albert Andreas Watne in the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia. They made their home in Ossian. Ida was a resident in the Aase Haugen Home since May 9, 1988.
She was a member of the Ossian Lutheran Church, Sarah Circle, A. L. C. W. Ladies Aid and the World War I American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include: two brothers, Carl Gipp and his wife Evelyn of Parachute, CO; and Alvin H. Gipp and his wife Jeanette of Decorah, IA; nine nephews,six nieces and several great-nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents, and her husband, Albert, in 1983; two sisters, Hazel Foeller and Edna Mundt; one brother, Elmer Gipp and one nephew.
