Eugene Schroeder

Funeral services for Eugene Schroeder were held Monday, March 12, 2007, at 11:00 a. m. in St. Paul Lutheran Church at Postville, Iowa. The Reverend Steve Brackett officiated. Special music was provided by the organist Joann Martins and soloist Ronald Meyer. The Casket Bearers were: Carrie Corlett, Mark Mittelsted, Johnathan Schroeder, Chad Schroeder, Steve Harkin, and Mike Mittelsted. The Honorary Casket Bearers were: Angie Harkin, Stacy Paul, Heidi Evans, Matt Corlett, Cory Evans, Melanie Schroeder, and Megan Schroeder. Burial was in the Pleasant View Cemetery at Castalia, Iowa. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.

Eugene Louis Schroeder was born July 25, 1928, in the Postville Hospital to Herbert and Anna (Meyer) Schroeder. He passed away Friday morning, March 9, 2007, in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa, at the age of 78 years, 7 months and 14 days.

He was baptized and confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church in Castalia, and attended the rural schools near his home. On April 17, 1949 Eugene was married to Luetta Mittelsted in St. Peter Lutheran Church at Eldorado, Iowa. To this union three children were born.

Eugene lived his entire life on a farm three miles south of Castalia. He was active in the community and served on the Castalia Fire Department, the Lutheran Church Council and was a member of the Postville bowling league. Eugene enjoyed farming, which enabled him to observe the beauty of nature. He also liked to hunt and fish. He became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Postville in April of 2003.

He is survived by his wife, Luetta, a son, Doyle and wife, Bonnie Schroeder, Castalia, Iowa, Eunice and husband, Ray Paul, Fayette, Iowa, and Lori Schroeder of North Liberty, Iowa. There are six grandchildren, Chad (Melanie) Schroeder, John (Megan) Schroeder, Carrie (Matt) Corlett, Angie (Steve) Harkin, Stacy Paul, and Heidi (Cory) Evans, and six great grandchildren, Abbie, Brennon, and Megan Harkin, Drew and Nathan Evans and Mollie Franzen.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Eugene was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville.
