Clarissa Bowers was born in Genesee county, New York, on July 9, 1837. When a young girl she moved with her parents to Winnesheik County, Iowa.
On July 26, 1857, whe was united in marriage to George Brunson, and soon afterwards moved to the homestead north of town where they have since lived. Seven children, three boys and four girls, were born to them, one of which, a girl, in infancy preceded her mother to the Better Land.
Besides a sorrowing husband, she leaves six children, all married, twenty-three grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one sister and three brothers to mourn her departure.
In early life Mrs. Brunson was converted and united with the M. E. church, of which she was a faithful member until her death.
Her genial disposition and affectionate nature were an inspiration to all who knew her. She was never happier than when surrounded by those she loved, and it was her great pleasure to have all her children at her bedside to cheer and comfort her during her last illness.
She fell quietly and peacefully asleep on April 3rd, at five o'clock in the afternoon.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist Episcopal church Monday afternoon in charge of the pastor, Riv. Will Kirwin, assisted by Rev. Samuel Upton, paster of the Free Methodist church of Riceville. Interment was made at Riverside cemetery.
