Obituary of John William Schroeder. Probably from the Postville Herald Paper,Postville,Allamkee County, Iowa

John William Schroeder was born December 27, 1860 in Mecklenburg,Schwerin,Germany,and passed away at his home in Castalia, Iowa on January 10,1931,at the age of 70 years and 13 days.

In the year 1881 he came to this country,locating at Postville. On December 30, 1892, he was united in marriage to Mrs. Martha Brandt of Postville.To this union seven children were born, Mrs. Emma Koenig,Mrs.Elsie Schultz and Mrs. Ruth Weaver,all of Castalia;Mrs. Clara Arndt and Mrs. Selma Nuehring,both of Mason City;Mrs. Florence Preuss of Postville and Herbert,living on the home farm about three miles south of Castalia.Also one stepson,Louis Brandt of Ossian.

The first years of their married life was on a farm near Luana. Later they moved to Castalia,where they lived for 27 years.

Besides his wife and children he leaves to mourn his departure two sisters,Mrs. Minnie Muchow of Fergus Falls,and Mrs. Bertha Blumhagen of Castalia; and one brother ,Henry Krogman of Postville.

His parents and three sisters preceded him in death. His children were all at his bedside at the time of his death.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Lutheran,Rev. G.A. Schmidt officiating. Interment was made Pleasant View Cemetery.
According to the christening records of the Evangelical-Lutheran Church,Eldena,Mecklenburg,Schwerin,Germany his birth date was December 27,1859 and christening date was January 6, 1860. Have a copy of the record.
