Rodney Louis Buddenberg

Rodney Louis Buddenberg, Age 82, of Grimes, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, June 13, 2006 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 17 at St. James Lutheran Church in Johnston with Pastor Gregory Davis officiating. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens, Des Moines, Iowa.

Pall bearers were Adam Humpal, Angela Humpal, Melissa McCurdy, Paula Humpal, Matthew McCurdy, and Todd Chingway.

Rod was born April 13, 19254 (sic) at Castalia, Iowa to Elmer and Ruth (Boyle) Buddenberg. He attended school at Castalia and Ossian De Sales, graduating in 1941. Rod also went to Junior College in Waukon, Iowa prior to entering the US Army in 1943. He was a Medical Technician with the 18th General Hospital.

On August 15, 1950 he was united in marriage to Irene Kamp at Postville, Iowa. Three daughters were born to this union, Kim, Kris, and Kay. The family lived in the Postville area for six years where Rod was employed at Falb Motor and later was part owner of Postville Implement. In later years, they settled in Des Moines, where he retired from Fawn Engineering after 20 years of service.

Rod loved wintering in Arizona with his wife and friends. He enjoyed all sports, especially the Denver Broncos and spent a lot of time with computer games and cards. Rod loved to start his day by eating breakfast out!

Rod is survived by his wife of 55 years, Irene; two daughters, Kim (Tim) Humpal of Waukee and Kay (Randy) McCurdy of Grimes; four grandchildren, Adam (Paula) Humpal, Angela Humpal, Missy McCurdy and Matt McCurdy. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Kris.

Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society or St. James Lutheran Church in Johnson.
