The 17th of March bring the 60th anniversary of the birthday of Comrade M. E. Meader, also the 38th anniversary of his marriage to Louise Powell, the latter thought to give Myron a little surprise. He caught onto something, but when Comrades L. W. Bennett and wife, W. W. Bandell and wife, A. J. Cratsenberg and Miss Alma Cratsonberg, C. O. Maltby, not accompanied by his wife because of her physical ability to be present, and E. M. Carter and wife, and no one else came, the surprise was that it was not a “mix-up like it was last year.” The company were boys and girls together for the space of a few hours, during which time a full hour was spent at the dinner table, which, with the exception of the baked beans and coffee, had not a thing on it to remind us of the days when we were “Tenting on the old camp ground." After dinner Comrade Maltby, in a neat little speech, presented Comrade Meader with a gold lined, silver tobacco box from Comrade and Mrs. Bandell, a capacious bill book from Comrade Cratsenberg, and a little oil painting with frame and a beautiful silver berry spoon from the rest of the company. Comrade Meader said our visit gave him more pleasure than did the gifts, but that they were all gratefully appreciated. It is a long way to the Post Room and some of the boys do not often meet the comrade there, but then little neighborhood reunions might be of more frequent occurrence.
