A Golden Wedding.
Last week’s Ossian Bee gives a pleasant account of the surprise party which called on Mr. and Mrs. Adam Vance on the 10th ult., and surprised them into celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of their wedding day. Nearly four score friends participated in the event, and besides setting out a banquet they left with these worthy people an easy chair for Mr. Vance and a gold watch for his good wife.
Mr. and Mrs. Vance were born and raised in Indiana, were married at South Bend, on the 19th day of Dec., 1850, and came to Iowa in 1853 settling on a farm in Bloomfield township, in this county, which he still owns, it is well improved and is run by his son-in-law, Thomas Boyle. Mr. Vance resides in Ossian, so that he has no care or trouble with the farm.
Mr. Vance responded to the call for men to put down the rebellion in 1862 and has an honorable discharge in his pocket. The entire family was present and the event was one not soon to be forgotten.
