Norton-Mumby Nuptials.
A very pretty, quiet wedding occurred this Wednesday morning at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Norton, 306 East Broadway, when a few guests witnessed Rev. M. Willett as he solemnized the marriage of their second eldest daughter, Geneva May, to Captain Clifford M. Mumby of St Paul, which terminates quite a little romance, and one of several years’ duration. The home was profusely decorated with smilax and sweet peas. In the parlor where the ceremony took place hung a beautiful bell of smilax and ferns under which another daughter was married June 29. The wedding march was a selection from Mendelsohn, rendered by Miss Hattie Fannan promptly at 9 o’clock a. m. while Miss Clara Williams of Decorah and Mr. Fred O. Thomas of Cresco, acted as bridesmaid and groomsman. The wedding ring was carried by Master Arnold Norton. The bride was very beautifully groomed in a white silk chiffon and carried a shower bouquet of white sweet peas.
Miss Norton is well known in Decorah having lived here most of her lif{sic} and is one of our most popular young ladies and a society belle who has won many warm friends who will regret to learn that she is to make her future home in far away China among the Orientials.{sic}
Captain Mumby is the eldest son of Wm. R. Mumby, Sr., of Bedford, N.D., a former resident of Decorah, and is a military instructor in the Chinese Imperial Reform Army. Captain Mumby served with the “Allied Troops” in China during the campaign against the “Boxers” and is one of the eight survivors of that famous and unfortunate Co. “C” 9th U. S. Infantry which was massacred at Balangiga, Isle de Samar, P. I. Sept. 28, 1901.
Captain and Mrs. Mumby were both born in Cresco, Ia., and by this union two old and highly respected families are united.—Decorah Public Opinion.
