GOLDEN WEDDING

One of those rare opportunities to hear the joyous ring of golden wedding bells was taken advantage of when on Monday, July 17, the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Mr and Mrs T. S. Blackburn gathered from far and near to help the old people celebrate their fiftieth anniversary of wedded life at the old farm near Ridgeway, Iowa. The house was tastefully decorated with ferns, daisies and blackeyed susans, while numerous bouquets of lovely cut flowers sent by kind friends added fragrance and beauty to the scene. Refreshments were served on tables set under the old pines on the lawn where thirty-one members of the family partook of the good things provided. After a feeling speech made by the eldest son, James, the bridal couple were each presented with a beau-ful gold watch and chain, gifts from the children; a gold lined berry spoon and large fruit painting from the grandchildren; a handsome broach and pair of cuff buttons from a brother in Keystone, S.D., two dainty bonbon dishes from friends. Mr and Mrs Blackburn, aged respectively 75 and 71 years, moved from Wisconsin about forty years ago and located on the fine farm which is their present home. Seven children were born to them, one of whom died in infancy. The others were all present at the reunion. The guests present were Mr. and Mrs. James Blackburn and son Ray, Royal, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Paley and children; Mr. and Mrs. Robert Blackburn and children, Ridgeway, Iowa; Mrs. E. H. Jones and son Stuart, Weyanwega, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. E. J. McQuarters and children, Northwood, Iowa; Mrs. Lewis Schorr and children, White Rock, S. D.; and Mrs. G. H. Rollins and children, Fredericksburg, Iowa. It was a beautiful day and one never to be orgotten by those participating in the festivities, and all wish the "old folks at home" many more years of happiness and prosperity.
