PIONEER DAYS-HESPER TOWNSHIP 1851-1941
Milton H. Camp, native of Ohio, was born in the year 1830. In the early 50's he came to Winneshiek county, with a number of other pioneers, all of whom settled near Baily Springs in Hesper township. He with a number of others built the first bridge across the river at Decorah. Lydia A. Hazel, a native of Stark county, Ohio, was married to Milton Camp soon after coming to Hesper township. He enlisted in the Civil War on the 23rd of October 1861. He was discharged on the 15th day of August, 1865, at the age of 35 years. They were the parents of 8 children, of whom only two remain: John of Esmond, North Dakota and Will of Stanley, Wisconsin.
