PIONEER DAYS-HESPER TOWNSHIP 1851-1941
Jens J. Wold was born in Trondhiem, Norway, in 1832. He came to America in the year 1853, locating in Wisconsin where he worked as a laborer on farms. In 1859 he came and settled west of the village of Hesper, where he bought 80 acres of unimproved land. He improved the same and lived there for 18 years when he sold it, and bought a farm in Section 26, Hesper township. Here he erected fine buildings and also had a fine orchard. Mr. Wold was married in 1854 to Turina Ellingson. They were blessed with six children: Elling, a merchant at Hesper; Theodore, Decorah; Louise Johnson, St. Paul; Ella, (Mrs. Thune); John J., and Emma Humphrey, now deceased.
