PIONEER DAYS-HESPER TOWNSHIP 1851-1941

Mikkel Boland was born in Irongiem, Norway, in the year of 1829. He emigrated to America when he was 29 years of age, locating in Hesper township, southeast of the village of Hesper, where he lived for 20 years. He then purchased a 258 acre farm west of Hesper, which was principally fine prairie land, with little brush and 40 acres of timber. He was married in Norway in 1850 to Marit Johnson. There were born to this union seven children. He lived until 1899, when he was called home, having attained the age of 70 years.
