PIONEER DAYS-HESPER TOWNSHIP 1851-1941

George Miles, a native of England, was born there July 7, 1822. At the age of ten years he emigrated with his parents to Canada, first settling in Montreal, where they resided for two years. Then they went to Addison county, Vermont. He was a millwright by trade, which occupation he followed until 1855, when he came to Hesper. During the fall of 1855 he assisted in putting up the steam and saw mill at Hesper. He was married to Caroline Worth in 1845. They were the parents of four children, Florence, who became the wife of Cyrus Burt, George D., Estella, all of whom are deceased, and Carol, living in Ohio.

Flora C. Cameron, a niece of Mrs. Miles, whose mother died when she was an infant, was adopted by the Miles, and is now the wife of E. L. Hill of Chehales, Washington. George passed away at Mabel, Minn., in 1865. After his death his widow came back to Hesper where she lived the remainder of her life. Mrs. Amos Robinson, a granddaughter of the Miles, is today one of Hesper's residents.
