PIONEER DAYS-HESPER TOWNSHIP 1851-1941
C. J. Tamnas, one of the early Norwegian pioneers, was born in Koras, Norway, in 1831. He came to America in 1856. Here he married Mary Berg. Together they settled on a farm west of Hesper. In 1886 they moved to the village where he followed the trade as a blacksmith in partnership with a Mr. Reynolds for a short time, then farming a partnership with a Mr. Folstad, operating under the name of Folstad and Tamnas. He followed this trade until 1877, when he engaged in the hardware business with Frank Jones. When the Narrow Gauge Railroad was completed to Mabel, they moved there, carrying on the same business.
