PIONEER DAYS-HESPER TOWNSHIP 1851-1941

James Sharp was born in Pocahontas County, West Virginia, in 1820. He came to Iowa in 1853 and first settled on a farm in Hesper township where he lived for eight years. He then took possession of a farm in Section 16, Burr Oak township. In 1842 he was married to Miss Rachell Moore, in West Virginia, and they have seven children: George, Robert, Martha, Jane, Luvena, Eddie, and Prudie. Mr. Sharp, with the help of Henry Sherwin, another pioneer of Burr Oak, broke the sod for the first burial in Burr Oak, which was Mrs. Warren Harding, who died October 25, 1853.
