If anyone can help Carlo with his query (below) for a photo or additional information about Ernest L. Anderson, please contact Sharyl, the Winnebago co. coordinator at the above email address. I found the following information:
1. Ernest L. Anderson is buried in the Florence American Cemetery and Memorial in Florence, Toscena, Italy
2. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 4 Oak Leaf
Clusters and the Purple Heart
3. His service ID #0-767063
4. His parents & siblings were likely (I'm not absolutely certain) Oscar & Tilda A. (maiden name Brackey) Anderson; his sisters: Bernice O., Adeline T., Orean A., LeNore J. & Theola O.; his brothers: Telford B., Norman A. & Donald H. The family lived on a farm in Center township, Winnebago county, Iowa.
5. He was born in Iowa in 1924

There is a good chance that a local paper included a photo along with an accounting of his death in action. I'm hoping someone who lives locally and has access to the old newspapers from 1945 will check to see if there was anything published.

Thanks,
Sharyl

Carlo's query:
I am interested in military history. With the purpose of reconstructing the war events that took place in my province - Modena, North Italy - during WWII, I would be interested to come into contact with relative of 1st Lt Ernest L. Anderson of Winnebago Co., IA, P-38 fighter pilot in the 95th Fighter Squadron, 82nd Fighter Group. He was shot down and KIA on April 22, 1945, in the Po Valley, North Italy.
My desire is to find some info and a photo for each pilot that was KIA or downed, with the help of some veteran associations, pilots relatives, books and documents maintained at Maxwell AFB, Alabama, etc.

My gratitude to the American, British, Commonwealth and Brazilian airmen: they lost their lives for the liberation of my country and for the return of the democracy.

Thanks for your help in my researches.
