Ole Johnson Hjartsjø/Jarshaw

JOHNSON, HJARTSJØ AND JARSHAW

I am looking for information on Ole Johnson Hjartsjø, b. 1 May 1834, Hjartdal, Telemark, Norway. He immigrated in 1851, served in the Civil War and is listed as living in Rake, Iowa. He used the name Jarshaw, while serving in the Civil War, which is the Americanized version of Hjartsjø. I suspect he may have changed it back to Johnson. Here he is listed as one of the Norwegians that served in the Civil War.
JARSHAW, Ole Johnson
From Hjertdals prestegjeld, Norway. Civil War: Private. Wounded. Post war: Lived at Rake, Iowa. Sources: (Ulvestad p295) There was a man in Rake named Ambros Jarshaw; unknown if this is the same man.

This is my great great uncle and I'd like to know what happened to him and if he ever had a family.

Thanks for your help! Tusen takk. Wanda
