Myra Shirley Nies
July 21, 1938 - December 2, 2005

Following a brief illness, Myra Shirley Nies, age 67, of Forest City, Iowa, died on Friday, December 2, 2005, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

A daughter of Emil and Albina (Beck) Oster, Myra Shirley Nies was born in Eureka, South Dakota, on July 21, 1938. She received her education there and graduated from Eureka High School.

On November 11, 1956, Myra married Gerald Nies in Eureka, South Dakota. They, then, lived in Minneapolis for a time where Myra worked in the Red Owl produce department for many years. She, also, served as secretary for the city of Coon Rapids, Minnesota.

In 1979, the family moved to Forest City, and Myra worked as a key-punch operator at Winnebago Industries. After a while, they moved back to Eureka, South Dakota. Nevertheless, after several more years, they returned to Forest City in 1984 to make their home. After Gerald passed away in 1992, Myra moved to Arkansas for a brief time, but eventually came back to make Forest City her home once again. She continued to live in Forest City until failing health forced her to enter the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

A member of the First Baptist Church, Myra taught Sunday school. An avid reader, she, also, enjoyed playing the piano and the organ. In addition, she liked watching TV westerns, doing crossword puzzles, and caring for her pets.

Myra is survived by her children, Paul Nies, of Merkel, Texas, Jeff Nies, of Mason City, Iowa, and John Nies, of Ellsworth, Iowa; three grandchildren; two brothers, Gary Oster, of Eureka, South Dakota, and Donald Oster, of Richmond, Minnesota, and a sister, Judy Reynolds, of Boise, Idaho.

Myra was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Gerald.

Funeral service will be held Thursday, December 8, 2005, at 10:30 AM at the First Baptist Church in Forest City with Pastor Doug Snyder officiating. Burial will follow at the First Baptist Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation will be Wednesday, December 7, 2005, from 4:00 to 7:99 PM at the funeral home.
