Betty Jean Berg
June 27, 1928 - November 12, 2014

Betty Jean Berg, 86, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side on Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines.

Born on June 27, 1928, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to Walter Adam and Ada Fae (Kibbey) Stefans, Betty Jean grew up in Des Moines and graduated from Roosevelt High School with the class of 1946. Next, Betty enrolled at Iowa State University where she met William E. Berg, who swept her off her feet on a blind date. They became a couple and later married on September 11, 1948, in Des Moines.

Betty and Bill made their home in Forest City and were blessed with three daughters, Stephanie, Judy, and Cheri. A member of P.E.O. and the United Methodist Church in Forest City, Betty enjoyed dancing to all types of music, bowling, golfing, gathering with friends, and occasionally making a trip to Prairie Meadows. She loved the holidays and took great pride in preparing the family meals and baking all her family’s favorite holiday treats. Most of all, Betty had a heart of gold, always caring for others and wanting to put them first.

Betty will be missed deeply by her daughters, Stephanie Murphy, Judy (Dick) Rue, and Cheri Berg, all of Ankeny; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Berg, and a sister, Marjorie Wright.

Betty’s family would like to thank the entire staff at Taylor House Hospice for the exceptional care and love they gave Betty and her family during her time there.

A visitation and celebration of Betty’s life will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, November 20, 2014, at the Ankeny Funeral Home, in Ankeny, Iowa.
In addition, a memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2014, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel in Forest City, Iowa, with Pastor Chuck Layton of the Forest City United Methodist Church officiating. Burial of cremains will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Taylor House Hospice.
