Rev. Norbert L. Jolivette

Rev. Norbert L. (Jolly) Jolivette, 69, of 123 Woodland Drive in Forest City, IA, died on Wednesday, February 24, 1993 at Mercy Hospital in Mason City, IA. Funeral services were held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City on Saturday, February 27, with the Rev. Ole Winter officiating, with burial in the Oakland Cemetery at Forest City.

Norbert Lee Jolivette was born on December 20, 1923, near Greenwood, Wisconsin, the son of Lee Albert and Serina (Johnson) Jolivette. He was united with Christ in baptism and later in life confirmed his faith in his Lord, both events occurring in Greenwood. He graduated from Greenwood High School in 1941, worked for two years and then served in the US Navy during World War II from 1943-46.

He graduated from St. Olaf College in 1950 and from Luther Theological Seminary in 1953. On August 26, 1950, he was married to Alice Derscheid at Moland Lutheran Church in rural Kenyon, Minnesota.

His first parish was in Almont and Sims, North Dakota from 1953-1956, he then moved to Wallingford, IA from 1956-1962. In 1962, he began serving Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell where he ministered until October of 1981. In 1981, he moved to Forest City and began work in the Development Department of Waldorf College, retiring from there in 1986 and began serving as Visitation Pastor at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City.

During his ministry Jolly served on various Bible Camp boards, several social service and nursing home boards, on the Board of Regents of Waldorf College; the Iowa District Council; as Dean of the Des Moines Conference of the American Lutheran Church, on the Iowa District Appeals and Adjudications Committee and the Iowa District Salary Committee.

He is survived by his wife, Alice of Forest City; six children and their spouses, Rev. Mark and Sharon Jolivette of Onalaska, Wisonsin, Ruth and Tim Asper of Des Moines; Rev. Tom and Julie Jolivette of Forest City; Bruce and Becky Jolivette of Garner, IA; Jean and Tim Holt of Ellsworth, IA, and Duane and Amy Jolivette of Minneaspolis, MN; a brother Dean Jolivette of Greenwood, WI and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.

The family requests memorials to either the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Forest City Endowment Fund or to the Jolivette Endowed Scholarship at Waldorf College in Forest City.
