Timothy Jay Nelson
February 8, 1956 - November 25, 2017

Surrounded by his family at home, Timothy Jay Nelson, 61, of Forest City, returned to his heavenly home on Saturday, November 25, 2017, after a courageous battle with blood cancer and a failed bone marrow transplant. His devotion to his community, family, and friends along with his strong faith in Christ Jesus supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.

Timothy Jay Nelson, a son of Donald James and Dolores Ann (Heidenreich) Nelson, was born on February 8, 1956, in Forest City. His Paternal grandparents were Cheney and Alvina (Bower) Nelson; his maternal grandparents Clarence and Alma (Mostrom) Heidenreich.

Tim attended Forest City Schools, graduating in 1974. He married his high school sweetheart, Debra Krieger, on February 4, 1977, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Forest City. To this covenant, two sons, Nathaniel and Nicholas, were born.

Believing God gave him a skill and heart for service, Tim worked for Tri-County Plumbing and Heating, and subcontracted many years under Phil Hanson of Hanson Hardware before establishing his own business, Nelson Plumbing, Heating and Electrical, in the late 1970s. In addition, he served his community with the Forest City Police Department as a reserve officer for several years and as a North Iowa underwater search and recovery diver. Today, Deb and his sons continue his passion for serving the Forest City area.

Tim found his greatest joy in spending time with his family and friends, especially with his granddaughters and their weekly “papa donuts” breakfasts with the guys' coffee group. He, also, enjoyed hunting, experiencing the outdoors, bass fishing, and motorcycling with family. He prided himself in taking on difficulties in both business and personal challenges, an attribute reflected in his deep faith and integrity. He viewed his work as a calling to further the gospel through friendship and authenticity. Moreover, he served in various capacities in his church. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Debra, of Forest City; his two sons, Nathaniel (Jane) Nelson, of Forest City, and Nicholas Nelson, of Leland; his granddaughters, Lilian and Alexis Nelson; and his siblings: Arlis (Charlie) Bode, of Scotland, South Dakota, Larry and Alan Nelson, of Forest City, and Dan Nelson, of Mason City; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents; his nephew, Ryan Bode; and his niece, Heather Nelson.

Tim and the Nelson family want to make a special note of deepest gratitude to “Be the Match” and Tim's 25 yr. old anonymous stem cell donor. His lavish and selfless gift allowed our family extended time to cherish with Tim.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, November 30, 2017, at the First Baptist Church, 18508 East HWY 9, Forest City, Iowa 50436 with Pastors Eric Weaver and Matt Rittgers officiating. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark Street, Forest City, Iowa 50436. Interment will follow in the Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City.
