Larry Dean Michaelson
June 17, 1936 - November 21, 2017Larry Michaelson, 81, of Rochester, Minnesota, formerly of Lake Mills, Iowa, died peacefully on Tuesday, November 21, 2017, at Cottagewood in Rochester, Minnesota.
Larry Dean Michaelson was born on June 17, 1936, in Thompson, Iowa, to Harold and Irma (Friesenborg) Michaelson. He attended and then graduated from Crystal Lake High School with the Class of 1955. While stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey, from 1959 until his honorable discharge in 1961, he served in the United States Army. On January 27, 1962, he married Donna Wolters at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. For the next forty-seven years, he farmed. At the same time, he, always, enjoyed his horses, providing wedding rides, hayrides, and sleigh rides throughout the years. Known for his bright blue eyes and genuine smile, Larry had a kind heart. In addition, he loved the Lord and his family. Indeed, he had a very special place in his heart for his four dear grandchildren and considered all else a blessing.
Survivors include his wife, Donna, of Rochester; two children, Jill (Scott) Huerter, of Rochester, and Dean (Dana) Michaelson, of Creston, Iowa; four grandchildren: Tyler (Lonna) Huerter; Angela and Brandon Phipps; Brooke (Matt) Sorenson; and two brothers, Jerry Michaelson, of Leland, Iowa, and Howard (Elaine) Michaelson, of Buffalo Center, Iowa; and his brothers- and sisters-in-law: Linda (David) Olson, of Phoenix, Arizona, Gary (Rachel) Wolters, of Forest City, Iowa, and David Wolters, of Belmond, Iowa; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and special friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Roger Olson; and his sister-in-law, Peggy Wolters.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Friday, November 24, 2017, at rural Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, 3906 Bluebill Avenue, Joice, Iowa 50446, with Pastor Kevin Olson officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 12:30 PM until the service time. Military rites will be performed by Lake Mills Otto/Chose Post #235. Burial will take place at Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church Cemetery.
