MINNEAPOLIS, Minnesota – Donald H. Branstad, 89, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, died on Thursday, October 13, 2016, at the North Memorial Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson with Rev. Judy Wozniak officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson with military rites. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday. The Cataldo Schott Funeral Home in Forest City is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials to donor’s choice.

Donald Hilton Branstad, a son of Philip A.G. and Lydia (Seikmeier) Branstad, was born on April 1, 1927, in Forest City. After attending country schools, he graduated from Thompson High School in 1945. He, then, joined the U.S. Army Signal Corp, serving most of his time in the Philippines while teaching radio school. Upon his honorable discharge, he attended Iowa State University, graduating with a degree in electrical engineering. Next, he worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids. In 1953, however, he moved to Minneapolis to work at Honeywell and later at FMC. He, then, completed a two-year business course at the University of Minnesota. On May 18, 1968, he married Verneil Anderson. While retired, he worked for a while part-time with children building robots and electric cars. A very kind, quiet, thoughtful, and well organized man of strong faith, he never complained.

Don is survived by his wife, Verneil, of Minneaplis, Minnesota; his brother, Glenn Branstad; his sister-in-law, Grace Branstad; and his brother-in-law, Francis Burnham; as well as by many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Paul and Cliff Branstad; and his sisters, Doris Lehman, Lorraine Branstad and Julie Burnham.
