Shirley Mae (Holmlund) Pierce, 83 of Thompson, Iowa, died on Monday, August 08, 2016, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Shirley Mae, a daughter of William and Gladys (Lund) Holmlund, was born on May 10, 1933, in Marion, Iowa. Baptized at Trinity Lutheran in Mason City and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion, she graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1951. On October 26, 1952, Shirley married Brice Pierce of Thompson at Salem Lutheran in Lake Mills. Subsequently, they had four children: Gary, Sharon, Cindy and Kevin. A homemaker and day care provider for many years, she was an active member at Bethany Lutheran Church.

A kind and loving person to all, Shirley enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren as well as with her siblings and their families. All about traditions, she enjoyed sewing, quilting, helping at church, visiting with friends, cooking, baking, walking, watching cardinals, traveling, going on picnics at the lake, and boating.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Brice, of Thompson; her sons, Gary, and his wife, Jenelle, and Kevin, and his wife, Nancy, all of Lake Mills; her daughters, Sharon, and her husband, Brad Krogman, of Maple Grove, Minnesota, and Cindy Simmons, of Thompson, and her son; seven grandchildren: Cass Pierce (Brooke), Cody Pierce (friend Chelsea Bauer), Courtney Brazier (Rob), Nick Krogman (Sarah), Staci Marr (Chad Koester), Scott Flatness (Sarah), and Tony Flatness (fiancée Chelsey Klismith); and five great-grandchildren: Anna Brazier, Korra Marr, Taylor and Austin Koester, and Sierra Klismith; her brothers, Bob Holmlund, and his wife, Sandy, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Ron Holmlund, and his friend, Connie Valentine, of Dade City, Florida, and David Holmlund, and his wife, Pat, of Aurora, Colorado; her sister, Mary, and her husband, Charles Stumo, of Northwood, Iowa; her brother-in-law, Lon Pierce, and his wife, Mary Kay, of Mills River, North Carolina; and her sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Tibbits, of Forest City, Iowa; as well as by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Gladys Holmund; her in-laws, Walter and Laura Piece; her sisters-in-law, Gerrie Holmlund and Norma Authier, and her husband, Lyle; her brother-in-law, Don Tibbits; her nephew Craig Holmlund; and two great-nephews, Andrew Holmlund and Nels Stumo.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, August 12, 2016, at Bethany Lutheran Church, 183 2nd Ave. E. in Thompson with Rev. Judy Wozniak officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, August 11, 2016, at Bethany Lutheran Church and again one hour prior to the service on Friday. Inurnment will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd St. SE, Mason City, Iowa, 50401, or to Bethany Lutheran Church Sunday School, 183 2nd Ave. E., Thompson, Iowa, 50478.
