Brad Allen Almelien
September 01, 1971 - May 26, 2016Brad Allen Almelien, age 44, of Buffalo Center, died peacefully on Thursday, May 26, 2016, at his home.
Born to Gary and Paulette (Arend) Almelien on September 1, 1971, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, Brad attended and then graduated from Buffalo Center-Rake High School in 1989. Then, he completed his education in 1991 at Wadena Technical College in Wadena, Minnesota.
On December 29, 1995, Brad married his best friend, Jodi (Buss) Almelien. They made their home in Buffalo Center, raising two children: Ryan Michael, born January 3, 1995, and Allison Lynn, born October 10, 1998.
For twenty-three years, Brad was employed at Fleetguard/Cummins Filtration in Lake Mills, filling various positions through the years. He started as an assembler and ended his career in maintenance.
Brad was passionate about a few things in his life: his family, fishing, and farming…not necessarily in that order!
While growing up, Brad most liked visiting his grandparents’ farm. He spent countless hours working beside his Grandpa and Grandma Arend and fishing in the pond on his afternoons off. In addition, his family took many fishing trips while he was growing up to Long Bridge Resort in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota.
With his own wife and children, Brad would, also, go on fishing trips to the Northern Lights Resort in Richville, Minnesota. Brad and Jodi (aka his “Domestic Love Goddess”) enjoyed fishing, gardening (small-scale farming), and local crop-checks with each other. Brad, also, liked to help his farmer friends with their fall harvests. Always a farmer at heart, he had a weakness for old Allis-Chalmers tractors.
When it came to his kids, Brad enjoyed his role as dad. He tried to use every experience as a life lesson. To teach his children, he used daily events such as holding a door open for a lady, respecting elders, observing gun safety, learning how to fish, and taking the higher road even when the situation didn’t seem fair. In addition, he felt that everyone needs to have a gun and tractor “Wish List” in his wallet at all times. (You never know when it will come in handy.)
Brad is survived by his wife, Jodi, and their two children, Ryan Michael (Samantha Kollasch) and Allison Lynn Almelien; his mother, Paulette Almelien; his sister, Amy (Jamie) Hagen, and their children, Sophia and Kevin; his maternal grandma, Agnes Arend; his father- and mother-in-law, Russell and Karen Buss; his sister-in-law, Jill (Randy) Melz, and their children Noah and Kendall; his brother-in-law, Mike (Tina) Buss, and their children, Michael, Madison, Brandy, and Ryan; his aunts and uncles, Linda and Frank Arend, Francis Arend, and Sandy and Bill Price; and his cousins: Chris and Tiffany Arend; Jamie (Rhett) Clayton; and Tim, Terry (Stephanie), and Jody Fox; as well as by many friends.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Gary Almelien, in 1995; his maternal grandpa, Paul Arend; his paternal grandparents, Reuben and Gladys Almelien; and his aunt, Debbie Arend.
