Corinne Miller
November 2, 1920 - November 15, 2015Corinne Miller, 95, formerly of Buffalo Center, passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2015, in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.
On November 2, 1920, in the midst of an Iowa blizzard, Carol Corinne Miller was born on the family farm near Peterson. Following the passing of her mother when she was eleven, she was raised first by an older sister and several aunts and later by her step-mother, Taletta. She attended country school, graduated from Royal High School and then from Iowa State College in Ames with a degree in Home Economics. She taught Home Economics and General Science in several Iowa schools including Primghar, Stanhope, and Webster City. In 1945, she married Howard Miller of Primghar. In the late 1940s, she worked for the Johnson County Extension Service while her husband completed his studies in pharmacy at the University of Iowa
After living in both Anthon and Storm Lake, Iowa, the family settled in Buffalo Center where they owned and operated Miller Pharmacy from 1958 to 1997. Following Howard’s passing in 1993, Corinne continued to run the pharmacy.
A loving mother and wife, Corinne, truly, partnered with Howard in owning and running Miller Pharmacy. After their children had grown, they acquired the Ben Franklin store, which Corinne managed and operated. In later years, one of Corinne’s real joys came from traveling with Howard to attend pharmacy continuing education seminars and University of Iowa football games.
A life-long Lutheran, Corinne belonged to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center. She, also, participated in politics at both the state and the national levels. Having grown up near the Iowa Great Lakes, she loved spending time at the lakes, and eventually, she and Howard owned a summer cottage there. Inevetably, she passed on her love of swimming, boating, and sailing to her sons.
She is survived by her sons, Jeffery (Anne), Michael (Linda), Curtis, and David (Wendy); seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Hazel; her brother in-law, Glen; and numerous nephews and nieces. Preceding her in death were her husband, Howard; her parents; her step-mother; her brothers, Raymond, Curtis, and Herbert; and her sister, Amy.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, May 7, 2016, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center. Inurnment will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
