Donald Winter, 85, of Buffalo Center, died on Monday, April 4, 2016, at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center.

Donald Charles Winter was born on June 15, 1931, to Raymond and Edna (Estle) Winter, in Lakota, Iowa. He grew up in the Lakota area and graduated from Ledyard High School. Next, he worked at a meat packaging plant in Waterloo, Iowa, for a short time. In January, 1952, he enlisted in the Navy and served until his honorable discharge in December, 1955.

While on leave in May, 1954, Don married Eleanor Mabus. After his discharge from the Navy, he and Eleanor farmed near Elmore, Minnesota, for two years. They, then, moved to Buffalo Center where they farmed until 1991. Otherwise, he enjoyed bowling, motorcycling, and playing cards.

Don is survived by his wife, Eleanor; his daughters, Debra (Bruce) Heyer and Colleen Winter, all of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Pamela (Paul) Miller, of Boone, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Caldwell, Jarvis (Tracy), Jennifer (Wade), Jeremy (Jessi), Kiki, Maggie, and Samuel; ten great-grandchildren: Ashley, Domenic, Emily, Halle, Paxon, Pyper, Shandon, Shya, Sydney, and Tiara; two sisters, Barbara (Ronald) Schroeder and Carol (Herman) Evers; and one brother, David (Janice) Winter. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, April 8, 2016, at the Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center with Pastor Judy Junkermeier officiating. Inurnment will be at Graceland Cemetery. Military rites will be performed by the Buffalo Center V.F.W./American Legion Color Guard. Visitation will be one hour before services at the Winter Funeral Home.
