April 27, 1958 - April 18, 2012WODEN - Dawn Louise Harrington, 53, of Woden, died on Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at her home surrounded by her family.
Dawn Harrington, a daughter of Lloyd and Lanida (Meyer) Willig, was born on April 27, 1958, at Mason City, Iowa. She graduated from Forest City High School in 1976 and Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business in 1980. After graduating, she owned and operated the Apostales restaurant in Orange City.
On September 4, 1982, Dawn married Paul Harrington at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Buffalo Center. They farmed near Woden and in 1988 made their home east of Woden where they raised their three children. An avid Cyclone fan, skier, and ball player, she, also, loved to golf. Indeed, she was a fourteen time club champion at the Barn/Gruis Recreational Area Golf Course near Buffalo Center, Iowa. Active in the Woden-Crystal Lake community, she served on various boards and coached girls’ sports as well. She loved spending time with her family, farming, and working in her gardens.
Dawn is survived by her husband, Paul, of Woden; three children, Katherine Harrington, of Ames, Elaine Harrington, of Davenport, and Steven Harrington, of Algona; a sister, Dana (Mark) Wilkinson, of Bettendorf; and her step-mother, Elsie Willig, of Forest City; as well as by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother, Lanida, in 1980; her father, Lloyd, in 2010; and a nephew, Jared Wilkinson, in 1981.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, April 21, 2012, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 310 Main St., Woden, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Memorials may be directed to the Forest City Education Fund - Willig Family Scholarship or the Woden Fire Department.
