Katherine Maxine Flugum
January 25, 1926 - March 8, 2016NASHUA — Katherine Flugum, 90, of Nashua, Iowa, died on Tuesday, March 8, 2016, at Cedar Valley Hospice House in Waterloo.
Katherine, a daughter of John and Rose (Stoll) Enright, was born on January 25, 1926, in Sioux City. Baptized in the Lutheran faith in Forest City, she, also, attended school in Forest City through the eighth grade. On August 15, 1948, she married Emil Kenneth Flugum in Forest City. To this union, two children were born. Although Emil and Katherine grew up less than fifteen miles apart, they did not meet until mutual friends introduced them in San Francisco. Katherine was working in a candy factory and Emil was in the Merchant Marines.
Katherine loved to read many different genres of books including history, geography, or mystery. In addition, she liked taking her grandkids fishing, rock hunting, or to flee markets. She collected dolls and enjoyed making doll clothes. Moreover, she spent a lot of time gardening, painting, and amusing her cats. After her wedding, she became a full-time homemaker, working with Emil on the various farms they had together.
Katherine is survived by one daughter, Karen Williams, of Clarksville; one son, Kenneth (Janet) Flugum, of Riceville; seven grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law; as well as by several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil; her parents; one brother, Robert Enright; one sister, Aileen Keough; and one great-great-granddaughter, Andreah Lynn Flugum.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 12, 2016, at the Hugeback-Johnson Funeral Home—Olson Chapel in Nashua with Rev. Lonnie Wilkerson presiding. Friends may greet the family an hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
