Vincent LeRoy Larson
July 19, 1924 - December 05, 2015U.S. Veteran Vincent L. Larson, 91, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Saturday, December 05, 2015, at the NewAldaya Care Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Vincent LeRoy Larson, a son of Peter John and Cora Annette (Martinson) Larson, was born on July 19, 1924, in Lake Mills, Iowa, at the Oscar Martinson residence.
In 1925, he moved with his parents to Troy, South Dakota, where his mom and dad farmed. In 1935, his family moved back to Lake Mills to farm his grandparent’s farm.
Vincent attended and graduated from Lake Mills High School with the “Class of 1942.” Then, he worked with his father on the farm.
On August 17, 1943, Vincent married Rachel Ann Tweeten in Albert Lea, Minnesota. To their union, six sons were born.
Drafted into the United States Army, he served his country during World War II between 1945 and 1946.
For most of his life, Vincent worked for various area creameries, including the Farmer’s Coop Creamery in Forest City. Later, he managed the Garner Coop Creamery, working all facets of the operation from receiving the milk, processing it, bottling it, and cleaning the equipment. Very proud of his work there, he, often, mentioned that in 1958, he had produced 1,037,000 lbs. of butter.
In July of 1970, Vincent started working for Lutheran Brotherhood Insurance and later for the Lutheran Mutual company. He retired from the insurance business in 1986, but enjoyed working part-time at the Northwood Retirement Home. After moving to Lake Mills, he and Rachel took up summer residence at the Pilot Knob campground where he worked alongside the Park Ranger, Deb Coates, helping maintain various trails throughout the park and campground. These years were some of the happiest of his life.
Vincent and Rachel were blessed with 71 years of marriage, passing much of their retirement time traveling to and staying at various camp grounds where they enjoyed spending time with family and friends.
He is survived and sadly missed by his six sons, David (Dennis Banks), of Cuernavaca, Mixico, Ronald (Jane), of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Gary (Elaine), of Ames, Iowa, Steven (Terri), of Iowa City, Iowa, and James and John, both of San Francisco, California; nine grandchildren, Matthew, Emily, Eric, Scott, Chad, Adam, Peter, Marcus, and Andrea; five great-grandchildren, Samuel, William, Oscar, August, and Gunnar; his sisters, Loraine (Carl) Branstad, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Carole (Ronald) Mathews, of Leland, Iowa, and Gloria Langerud and Beverly Lovik, both of Lake Mills, Iowa; and his sister-in-law, Jean Larson, of Nisswa, Minnesota; as well as by many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rachel; his sisters, Blanche and Elnora; his brother, Marlin; his grandson, Michael; and his brother-in-law, Harlin Lovik.
